Although Arlington County is considered a county of the state of Virginia it is also considered a central city of Washington D.C. It is actually the smallest independent county in all the United States encompassing only 26 square miles. Though its land is small in size its population is not. As of 2008, Arlington County had 206,800 residents living here.

Arlington County is a very interesting place to visit and especially to live. With many national monuments and memorials, Arlington County offers a glimpse into America’s military past. Nearly four million people visit Arlington National Cemetery yearly to learn about American history and to honor the memory of our fallen heroes. Many who have served our military are also memorialized at the U.S. Air Force Memorial and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. Additionally, you may visit the Iwo Jima statue, and tour The Pentagon during your visit. Tours of The Pentagon are by appointment only. Be sure to schedule your visit in advance.

If you are looking for parks in Arlington to spend a warm summer day there are plenty of parks to choose from; Alcova Heights Park, Arlington Hall West Park, Barcroft Park, Benjamin Banneker Park, Bon Air Park, and Butler Holmes Park all provide charcoal grills for grilling up your favorite foods. Each of these Arlington Parks also provide their own additional amenities such as basketball courts, multiple ball fields, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, streams, paved walking trails, tennis courts, handball courts, and water fountains. After playing at the park with your family consider eating dinner at an Arlington restaurant to end the day right.

From fresh bakeries to steakhouses, Italian to Thai, there are restaurants in Arlington County to suit every craving you have. The next time you have a craving for pastries, cookies, bagels, or cake, visit the Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe, voted the “Best bakery in the DC area” according to the Washington City paper. When spicy foods beckon your taste buds, try Top Thai for traditional Thai cuisine, or Kabul Kabob which offers the finest in Afghan foods. The Capitol City Brewing Co. offers a mix of traditional American foods, Italian, Mexican, and, of course, freshly brewed beer.
