Great Falls, Virginia Community Information
  
Similar to Loudoun County, Great Falls, Virginia is known for its rural ambiance and character. It is decidedly a residential Northern Virginia community where local Politicians and other famous characters choose to settle with their families. However, most neighbors in Great Falls are not famous, just normal, everyday families looking for a peaceful environment in which to raise their children. Great Falls is a fairly small community approximately 30 minutes outside the greater Washington D.C. area. There are more than 8500 people currently residing here but due to its location it is likely to remain a small rural area for years to come. This is good news for those looking to live in a rural Northern Virginia community that has privacy, incredible equestrian facilities, and natural beauty as far as the eye can see. Named for the Great Falls on the Potomac River, Great Falls Park offers many recreational and learning experiences for people of all ages. Great Falls Park is an 800 acre park that offers countless opportunities to explore natural wonders near the Potomac River and the surrounding forests and land, as well as historical Virginian treasures. The Falls are viewable from several locations in Virginia as well as Maryland, however, if you wish to “experience” the falls, you’ll want to try whitewater rafting. Beware that these falls are considered quite dangerous and only the most advanced rafters should partake in any rafting adventure here. There are multiple other locations along the Potomac River that offer safer whitewater rafting adventures for those that are less experienced. Additionally, there are fifteen miles of hiking trails, rock climbing in Mather Gorge, and, of course, picnicking. Get there early in the morning if you wish to find parking!The Village Green is known as the setting where families of Great Falls gather together for special events and celebrations throughout the year. Some of these events include an egg hunt for the Easter holiday, Fourth of July celebrations, Halloween Haunts, and a Tree Lighting Ceremony for the Christmas Season.
