Covering only 216 square miles Warren County is one of Virginia’s smaller counties. Its population is also fairly small.  In 2000, the population of Warren County was only 31,584. Residents of Warren County do not have to travel far to find something exciting to do in Warren County or any of the six counties that surround it. Front Royal, Linden, and Ashby are the three primary areas within Warren County where residents may find entertainment, day or night.


Skyline Caverns is quite possibly the most famous attraction in Warren County, Virginia. These systems of caves were only discovered in Front Royal in 1937 and have since become a frequented tourist attraction. Anthodites, a rare type of crystal, jut out of the deep cave walls creating a spectacular site for visitors. Additionally, a miniature train called the Skyline Arrow is available for the kids to ride.


Besides Skyline Caverns, Warren County is blessed to have a part of two national parks and one national forest within its borders. Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park seeks to preserve historical sites within the Shenandoah Valley. If you are interested in learning more about Warren County’s history, visit the Cedar Creek Battlefield Visitor Center and Belle Grove Plantation House. However, if you are more interested in participating in recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, or even bird watching, you won’t want to miss George Washington National Forest or Shenandoah National Park.
